I recently bought a Hunter 23 , Absolutely love the boat but The one thing it seems to be missing is a stern rail. Do they have one available or will I have to get one made. I need some place to put the grill.

This goes over the rudder area and has teak wood for a seat and a place for the pit. Very easy to make and no welding just two 30 degree brackets and two 90 degree tees then drill the holes thru the teak and rails.

Tee he has a '23 the transom is totally different than your '23.5. I've thought about getting a stern rail for my '23 haven't done it yet  Brian_M_H23 has done the mod or his was bought like that. I think I remember reading that a catalina 22 stern rail was used on another.

I bought this from West Marine and attached it to the transom. No stern rails or other modifications needed. Works pretty well for me. I'll be at the lake this weekend and will try to get a picture. In case I don't get the picture, the bracket is on the port side above the motor mount. I have no idea if this is necessary, but I always disconnect the fuel line from the motor when using the grill. A little safety never really hurt anything.

The picture shows the bracket mounted inside the boat. I mounted ours on the outside. I suppose either way would work, though.

We thought we wanted stern rails when we bought our 23 but have been happy without them. Nothing to get in the way of the tiller or motor or swim ladder.

Hope this helps.

I didn't make it, but here's a convenient photo I have, under full sail with a 3-strand nylon helmsman. It was pretty home-made looking: mounted to blocks of plastic that were through-bolted (single bolt) on big blobs of sealant to sit flat, the feet attached with 4 small screws each, and and the rail sat in the feet/ help by setscrews

As a side note, I just set the mast on the railing to trailer the boat. However, I think I had a tendancy to pull it down a wee too tight with the ratchet straps..the slight bend in the middle is my addition.

My 23 has stern rails, one on either side (nothing across the transom). Came that way from PO. These are good quality stainless, with welded-on mounting brackets that are thru-bolted. No pics right now, but I assume he had these made by a pro.

Thanks for all the info. If Hunter never made one I guess I'll find someone to bend it for me. I priced all the material through Wholesale marine and even with shipping its not to pricey. I'll post pics when I get it gone

Ask Hunter

My 1995 H26 did not come with stern rail seats when I bought it in 2005. I called Hunter and though they did not stock them, they had the prints, so they made me a set. I would call them. If not immediately, perhaps they would make them when their tech is not busy.
