Stern Rail

A loose boat recently pinballed its way through the mooring field during a storm and ended up crushing our stern rail and chewing up a bunch of gel coat. Does anyone have a spare H 49 stern pulpit? I’m hoping Art can pull a rabbit out of a hat here. I would also settle for a jig or drawings of the original.

Bad luck.
I had RailMakers come out to my boat, measure and install a custom pulpit. It was not expensive. I got two seats where there were none before for no more than a pulpit would cost if I found a suitable one on consignment.

Did you file an insurance claim? While this is not your fault, your company may pay for the repairs and then go after the other guys insurance.

I have contacted the insurance company of the owner of the boat that hit me. They told me to get an estimate. I’m just waiting for an appointment at the yard. In the meantime, I might be able to speed up the process by sourcing a new rail.

Try White Water Marine. They were the OEM for many of the SS parts for production boats. If they weren't Tops in Quality was and WW bought all of TnQ's assets when TnQ went out of business.

Thanks, I have sent emails to the companies mentioned. I hope at least one of them has a nice solution to my problem.

Hunterowners ... were able to have one made for my 49 when mine got crushed. They were able to go back to the original vendor who made them for Hunter. It fit perfectly making the replacement easy. I worked with Al Fooks to get it done. He should still have all the same contacts.

Good Luck

The first photo looks like a damaged stanchion base - perhaps they used the same part to anchor the stern rail. The store for this site has them.

Yes, it ripped off the stanchion before attacking the stern rail. I’ll have to replace the base. Luckily, I had removed the lifelines to get them replaced. Otherwise the rest of the stanchions would probably all be bent.

Still waiting to hear from Al Fooks. I guess they’re understaffed right now.
There are a several behind the scenes changes going on a SBO which are time consuming. A big part of that is the warehouse move from the west coast to Florida. SBO is a small company with only a handful of staff.
