I have seen refrences to speakers being mounted under the stern railseats and it sounds great. (pardon the pun) I have searched the Photo Forum to no avail, can anyone supply more details or a picture?. Thanks

Stern rail speakers on H260

I installed outdoor speakers from West Marine by screwing them to the bottom of the stern rail seats. Mounting was easy. I didn't want the wires hanging loose to look sloppy or get caught on something. (With the bulkhead out that seperates the aft berth from the battery, etc.) I drilled a hole from the inside of the hull out in to the tube that is a leg for the seat. I just went to the center of the three bolts that mount the flange at the bottom of the leg and drilled out and a little up on an angle. On this boat you're drilling through 2 layers of about 1/8" fiberglass and 3/8" of aluminum. Then I drilled a hole in the leg just under the seat and fished the wire through, then added a rubber grommet. I also used plastic wire holding loops to route the wire across the bottom of the seat to the speaker. It took a couple of hours and I was happy with the results. Just make for very sure where you are drilling. Of course I'm sure you could get someone else to drill the holes in your boat for, say, a couple thousand dollars or so. speakers

Can't show you a picture, but this is how we did our 23.5. We mounted West Marine round speakers as far aft as possible on the back-rest. Note that the back of the speaker is flat, the back-rest isn't. So I cut a piece of teak about 10" square, then used a belt sander to shape the back of the wood to fit the contour of the back-rest. After you mount the speaker to the teak you can see how big a hole you need to cut in the backrest. You will have to poke a hole through the foam to run the speaker wire, I used a sharpened dowel rod. Just make sure everything is sealed well so you don't end up with a leak. Rich
