From your experience do you think they need scews whith nuts inside.Seems dificult to reach the further leg. Please help. Thanks . Ulises.

drill and tap

It may be too late, but I'd have tried to drill and tap, after verifying that you have embedded aluminum plates in the correct spots. On my '95 H26, the forward mounting points are inaccessable from inside due to foam flotation, plus the inner liner of the aft berth.

Needs To Be Through Bolted

On the 23.5s part way through the model year they started putting backing plates in for the stern rail seats. Mine was too early to have them so I had to put in backing plates. You should use at least a 1/4" machine screw to mount them. If you do have the plates when tapping the threads for the screws do not try to turn the tap more than one ful turn before backing it out. A broken tap where one of your screws is supposed to go would be a real mess.

Catbird seat installation

I purchased the stern rail seat kit from Hunter for my '94 H-26 shortly after they came out. Along with 5 pages of installation instructions that I have in front of me, the kit included 2 aluminum plates, fiberglass cloth to glass the plates in place and reinforce the area, 12 toggle bolt type stainless blind fasteners for the forward legs, and all necessary hardware. I provided the resin and caulk. The aluminum plates were glassed into place facing each other at the transom, drilling and tapping them provides the main support for the rear legs and the seats. The forward legs were mostly blind fasteners, but I think I was able to put washers and nuts on a couple of the machine screws that I could reach. I did this in '96, and with Hunters hardware and using the 3M 5200 sealant they recommended the seat mounts have not moved.

Right & Wrong

I guess I have done both. Right :to ask all of you . and for the responses I thank you all. Wrong: The instalation I did.But I think It's fixable. Marcel, the aluminium back plates ¿is it OK with 1/4,Are they about the size of the round terminal? When in place ,you drill and then is it tappin screw,or do you think I can use Machined and nuts on the inner side? If by any chance you could E-mail(uvgd@aol.com) me a copy of your instruccions (or Fax them )I will be most gratefull and will buy you a beer the firts opportunity I have. Thanks to you all.Ulises.

Installation details

Ulises, I think you really need the instructions. The aluminum plate is about 3"x10", but before you even put it on, Hunter calls for installing 3 plies of fiberglass mat in the space the plates go, then installing the plates. E-mail me at mralbov@yahoo.com and I will try to get the instructions to you.

install

Marcil is right on as for the alum plates. If not there, it is highly recommend that you intall them as he advised if not there. When you do install, I always have suggested that you predrill with a small drill bit to see if you have any metal shavings coming out that will tell you if you have aluminum plates encapsulated in the fiberglass. Use bolts only and no screws. Make sure you have a metal bracing on the back to distrubute the load out thus the aluminum plates. By all means use 5200 but clean it up as soon as possible. Wher did you get the seats?

Ulises, If you don't mind, I'm sorry but I must ask a burning question. Where did you get these stern rail seats? Did you get them from an after market fabricator or someone that chose not to install them that did not have the hardware and instructions? The reason I am asking is that you may have an aftermarket source on an item that no one knows an aftermarket source exists. Not to take anything away from the quality product and support Hunter has (Greg and Mark at Hunter are great!)but in a free market economy competition is good.

It is a shame to say but I think the fastening pack an instuctive got lost in customs. The seats are O.K. an look great too. by the way ,they come prepared for the drink holders, just like the 260.
