I have a 1976 Catalina and like the stern rail seats that are so popular on the newer model boats. I see that stern rail seats are available for all sizes and ages of Catalinas and am wondering if anyone has gotten them and use them. If so, give me your review. I'd love to know. They aren't that expensive, so it won't be any big loss if they are not really that good, but anyone who has them, please reply. Thanks! Tom

How do you get into the lazarette?

I've also lusted after teh "sternperch" seats for my 27 (1974, OB engine, std rig). Hte aftermarket seats have a support leg that would interfere with opening of the lazarette. If you have an IB, this is an inconvenience. With an OB, MAJOR HASSLE! You need to open the lazarette on an OB model frequently to start

The perch seats aren't recommended for an OB

They just plain get in the way. But, the seats do come made for a single cross bar on the pushpit. I have the Perch Seats on a Capri 26. The support leg does hold down the aft port locker. It's a simple process to loosen the two hand screws that hold the seat to the cross rail and then tilt the entire seat up to allow locker access. I use the aft locker for storage of stuff like disposable butane bottles, wax or oil....stuff I don't need very often. If I needed access more often than I do, perhaps the support leg of the seat would be a bigger problem, but right now it's not. Yes, the seats are a blast.....most popular seat in the house as they say. In calm winds, and with the help of a tiller extension, it's a great view to pilot the vessel. Brad
