I recall seeing somewhere, a website that sells what are effectively small hammocks which can be fastened to the stern rail for sitting in (on?) My Pearson 26 does not have a lower rail. While I do like the idea of the hard seat I see advertised in the Chandlery, without the lower rail, I'll have to find an alternative. Has anyone else seen the hammock-like seat I'm talking about? Could you point me in the right direction? I made the mistake of not bookmarking the site when I happened up it this fall, and now I can't find it (I've Googled it with no luck.) Thanks! Brian

Anybody Have One?

My 1992 37.5 is from the pre-stern rail seat era. My admiral has always wanted them and likes the look of these. Does anybody have a pair of these? How well do they work? Gary Wyngarden S/V Wanderlust h37.5

seats

My new boat has the hard seats that mount onto the lower rail.....they are great and even come with a cusion and a cup holder built in. It was my wifes wish to have those on the boat and they are the best seat in the house while under sail. Princess like...........The hammock seats look real cool! I have never seen these before, however IMHO, I think the advantage to the hard seats would be you could relax more, while the hammock may require some muscle control on as you swing a bit. On my Cal 34 III (4 sale) we were going to have the rails cut and custom make the seats as part of the rail. Would have been great. Greg P36-2

I saw them on eBay

The vendor in the 1st reply also has them on eBay from time to time. I was really impressed with the design concept. I want them for my boat too. I looked at them real close and decided I could make similar ones for about $20-$25 materials (including the cushion).

Capt. Jim, where'd you find

instructions on hammock weaving? I too, thought that the pricing was a little high. I could probably make them myself, if I could find instructions on how to weave. Googling has not turned up anything of use.

Complete hammock

What I want is one I can run from the bow to the mast while at anchor or in the slip. I don't want to wrap one around the jib in fears that it will put extra strain on the jib fabric. Maybe if I run the spin haylard down the furled jib and attach a large D ring that I could clip around the furled jib, therefore the weight would mostly be on the haylard and not pulling on the jib fabric. Thoughts?

bcwave...try this on Google

"how to make hammock". I got several hits (maybe by the 2nd or 3rd Google page) on how-tos. One dated back to the 1970's.

Check out the site below. We have one of these that the admiral uses frequently when we're out cruising. We hang it from the spinnaker halyard and then run a line from the hammock to the forestay to hold the hammock away from the mast. Gary Wyngarden S/V Wanderlust h37.5

Hi Flyhop

I've got to say, if you found anything remotely resembling instructions on "how to make a hammock" when you Googled that, you're a better man (or woman) than I am. Every link takes me to a site that wants to sell me a hammock, or else it takes me to another search site, or to a site wanting to sell me a hammock domain name. If you're seeing something different, please post the specific URL. Thanks

Here's one, and an answer

First decent link for hammock weaving: http://www.motherearthnews.com/top_articles/1972_July_August/Macrame_Your_Own_Hammock It's probably not what you're hunting, and now that I look at it, it's pretty lame. Another I encountered was: http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/fiber_arts/71252 I think you have to know something about crochet first, though. And you can call me Trey. Flyhop comes from FLYfishing and HOPs in my homebrew. Cheers.

I'm still laughing from your "y'all" post the other day. You may like the Hennesey Hammock. Backpackers dig 'em, and they won't dump you out when the boat starts to rockin'.

Check out page # 588. The book has all the info you will ever need, to do any Boat related knot/rope work, but you will have to read and study it for a bit. Mark Price H37-C S/V Illision
