1976 Oday 25 My stern rail is not "split" like the newer models, and thus, you must precariously step over the rail after climbing the ladder....very dangerous. I've compared the newer Oday 25 rails with mine and it seems that they are identical, with the exception of the top rail. I want to cut the center rail out between the stantions and make a lifeline "gate". I hope to install end caps with some type of loop or hook over the cut ends on which to mount the lifeline gate. Anybody ever tried this? Ideas? Thanks

Stern Rail Split??
I have a 1980 O'day 25 and my stern rail is not split either. Yes, it is a pain to neogotiate the ladder and the rail and etc. But in the meantime doesn't the backstay get in the way also? How do you plan to get around it?

I looked through.....
some of the archives and didn't see anything related. Maybe Don will tune in soon and straighten me out on this. Not really worried about the backstay, as it is off center to miss the rudder and there's plenty of room to slip around it. The backstay even serves as something to hold onto for support while stepping through. Stepping over the stern rail is the difficult part....for me anyway. If this works, it should be an inexpensive modification that will pay off well. Thanks for the replies......Gary

You are correct...he is eager to help everyone and has excellent advice. He gave me a great deal on a sail last year. Did the Splits
I did do the splits and made sure that the stern rail was secured solidly. I can email you the picture. I think I've got it now...
I went to the local (non-chain) marine store today and right there on the shelf, was a whole rack of SS 1" outside end eyes, just what I needed, and less than 20 bucks for two. I figured that they would be hard to find since West's didn't stock them. I went by the marina today and got the measurement between the rear stern rail stantions, so as to make a cable gate tomorrow. Robert....I can probably get by without the picture....I really don't think I'll have any problem making this work, now that I have found the right parts. Thanks to all for your help. Don is selling his boat? How can he go on with life?

Reading and hearing from Don for the last 6?years on this site also showed me that he is committed to his family. My guess is he is sacrificing his desires for his family. I think his family is on his mind (I think his main desire). Chosing loves must be tough but Don has always shown, dedication to what he believes.
