Hello, I will try and look at mine this weekend and see what you are talking about. First let me get this right, it is the rail in between the two steps that go down to the transom am I right?

You might check the other side to see how they did it there. Some installations have captive nuts in the fiberglass.

I have looked and am not sure how to access the inside in order to put the nuts on when I replace the bolts. The only option I have seen that might be possible is to cut a small access from the lazzerette. Is this the correct method?
Additionally I would like to add some solid supports to help stabilize the davits. (From the stern rail to the deck) Has anyone else done this and how did you do it?

Finally Free - Just to let you know, I have my stern rail off at the moment and it appears there are nuts or more likely plates imbedded in the glass. If you broke the screws off you are going to have to drill them out. If not and hole is there, carefully take a 1/4x20 tap and carefully clean out the holes.

Your second question about braces is an easy one. I installed Ocean Marine dingy davits after we bought the boat 11 years ago. In the package they included a set of braces. They have eye type ends on each. At the stern rail they provided a clamping mount for each side and at the deck end they included the same hardware that is used to attach a bimini or dodger for the eye to engage. I mounted those on the rear deck near the drains for the rear hatch so the aft deck sunning pad would still install with a little effort. I did not put them in the drain as I did not want them to be constantly exposed to the water runoff that is generated.
There was nothing special about the actual parts, just two lengths of 1" polished tube, 4 eye type ends, two clamping mounts, and two flat surface mounts. I used lag bolts to mount the two pads on the deck but I know that Ocean Marine would through bolt them and put a fancy cover on the bolt heads showing in the cabin if the dingy was going to be especially heavy.

Here is a a picture of my Hunter Passage davits in Marathon. Even with the lateral support I tore out the port davit as I was returning to Dinner Key in 2'-4' seas. So now I only use it in calm waters (like transiting the ICW), otherwise the dinghy's on the foredeck.

Remove a bolt from the other side and try it in the existing hole. They are probably drilled/tapped into a backing plate.
