stern exhaust submerged in the water on 1988 C27

Hi all, I am a new owner for a 1988 Catalina 27. I took the boat out today a short sail, and when comming back to the marina while under motor I noticed that the exhaust where water is spitting out on the stern was little bit submerged under water. Is this normal? would there be any harm if this happens? Anybody have any idea why? Any help is much appreciated.

My 86 does the same thing. What you MUST watch for is water coming back thru the bilge discharge. If it does you will want to install a "anti siphon loop vent" for the bilge line. The engine cooling/exhaust line already has a vented loop from the factory so the water will not back up into the engine. good luck, Jack
