Stern chip at ladder point

First time boat owner and did not notice that the rubber "feet" on the stern ladder were missing (actually I didn't know they were supposed to be there in the first place), anyway, my large brother in law used it and on the left support (one of the two legs that come in contact witht the stern) the outside layer chipped. Knowing little about fiberglass, should I worry and/or do anything? This area is not normally in the water but obviously is frequently exposed. Thanks for any help - and yes, I now have the feet covered!

Gelcoat

Bill Check out ANY marine catalog. There are VERY many gelcoat repair kits to resolve your issue. (You could, of course, have your brother-in-law stop swimming and DO the work for you! Supervision is your choice (or your mother-in-law's!)) Your choice, go for it! Many of the posts to this forum are questions that are basically reasonable, but seem to neglect the fact that, perhaps, the respondents have not yet cracked a catalog and read the Advisors, that BOTH West Marine, and finally BoatUS include in their catalogs. I'm not suggesting that one become "an expert" before asking a question. The reality is that there's already a lot of material, both written by the great community of sailors on this forum, and about products, already out there. Please, each of you, consider doing some initial research on your own, and it will make it easier for all of us to help you. Best regards, (from a former first-time boat owner, who's made more mistakes than he cares to admit, but will do so if you want to listen to some sad stories...) Stu

Thanks Stu - 5 by 5

I hear your and much appreciate the spirit and advice - some "new boat jitters" on my part I think. What I was worried about is is the "chip" something that is cosmetic or will get worse if not addressed immediately. I've taken so time to learn more about the site and get some info - tons more to learn. Thanks again for the help and advice - happy sailing! Bill
