Catalina 310 Savannah
We have brought "Passages" our new to us 2001 310 home to Savannah (from St Simons Island, GA). One of the first projects we want to work on is the stereo and speakers. We see the wires under the stern rail seats, but in my research I am reading that there is no pre-run wiring in the salon in the earlier models. Can anyone with a 2001 elaborate on this? Does anyone have any pointers or suggestions on how to make this happen without pulling our hair out?

The speaker wires were pulled form the panel to the lazarette my 2001 #80. Where they fell short is for the length of wire (it was a separate piece) run up thru the railing to where you would mount the speakers under the seats. It also is glued in from the use of sealent so you can't even pull the old wire out without breaking them. The outside portion was not long enough to reach the back of the speaker. So I was forced to splice in two places argg!!.

Are you planning on moving the speakers from below the stern rail seats or add speakers to the cabin?

Speaker wires

My Catalina is a 2001 ( Hull # 62 ). It was bought used and had no stereo system. However it was pre-wired at the factory. Like yours it had wires under the stern seats as well as wires in the cabin at the aft side of the bulkhead that separates the salon from the V-berth.on both the port and starboard side. All that was required was to wire the speakers to these wires and then to the new receiver. A question for Jack Manning--- What marina in AC do you keep your boat? I am in Waretown NJ at Holiday Harbor.

Changing the subject slightly abyssal, what size is that TV? Is it wired to an over the air antenna on the mast and did you do the install? If so I'd like to get some pointers on running the coax and antenna install.

We want to put 2 speakers under the stern rails seats and 2 speakers in the cabin. I have tried to locate wires in the cabin but to no avail. We are hull #125. I am assuming they would run to the nav station?

CCHer: The TV is a 17" Toshiba with a DVD player. I don't believe Toshiba makes this size with DVD player any more. We didn't run a coax through the mast to an external antenna. We put an inlet in the anchor locker and ran the coax under the wood molding in the v-birth, behind the bulkhead into the salon. We had cable attached to the boat so we get TV only when we are in port.

AS far the speaker wires, ours is pretty as Witzend explained, except that there were speaker wires already run through the salon and they were coiled and obvious. They ran behind the circuit board at the nav station where I had to install a circuit breaker and connect the radio to the breaker, and, of course, speaker wires to the radio wire harness.
