Hello I have recently purchased an O'Day 25 and am in the process of spring cleaning (its amazing what a little teak oil and compound can do for the wood and decks). I also what to add a few items. One of the first things is CD player. I was looking for suggestions, placement of recevier and speakers, on what might have worked for other people. Right now the Marine radio is on the port side just as you go through the companion way. The Depth sounder swings into the companionway on a piece of wood on hinges. Thats about it for the "advanced" electronics. Thank you for any suggestions/pictures you can share. MIke

CD player & 4 speakers installed two days ago
Mike, I just installed my cd player on Sunday. I used an under-dash car stereo box I purchased at Pep-Boys and mounted it under the cabin hatch on the port side. (where your marine radio is) I put two speakers (waterproof West Marine) in the cockpit, one on each side under the seats and two in the cabin also on each side under the seats. The installation was simple and straightforward. I have yet to decide what I will do for the antenna. The speakers came with all wires & mounting hardware. I soldered and sealed all connections. Only in one spot (cockpit, starboard side, inside the seat/storage hatch) did I find balsa cored fiberglass, which I sealed with 5200 before installing the speaker. I was sure to use sharp drill bits and jig saw blades and did not have any unwanted cracking of the fiberglass. I did not take any pictures during the install. Unfortunately I didn't think of it until it was done. Tom OD25 Camelot

Mike, I have an AM/FM Cassett (NPR and the same Bonnie Raitt tape for four years). Planning on replacing it with a CD player. Mine is just to port of cabin and under bench where the traveler is mounted and facing the bow. I can reach in and adjust the volume without seeing it. I have a marine radio just to the left of the cabin entrance facing starboard. I have a GPS on a swing arm mounted just inside cabin on a swing arm that brings it into the cabin doorway. My speakers are mounted on the interior bulkhead (under the mast) in the upper corners were the bulkhead meets the hull pointed aft. Out of the way. I'm agin' cutting holes in a perfectly good boat if I don't HAVE to. Enjoy the boat. Mike

I am a whimp when it comes to drilling holes in my boat so I bought a small $35.00 boom box at walmart and ran a 12V power supply from the battery up to it. I like it because I can haul it outside when waxing the boat or take it ashore when I want to.

GPS Swing arm?
I am also interested in installing a stereo but my question is about the swing arm for the GPS that Mike mentioned. Where did you get the swing arm? Has anyone built a swing arm to do this? Do you like the way it works? (sorry, I don't mean to hijack your thread).. sPk

I did this on my power boat too.
There is a coupling of PVC drain pipe that just fits the round outdoor speakers. On my band saw I fashioned two round end pieces to in-close the coupling, then cut out the speaker end so the speaker has a place to be screwed to. Caulked the joints to be water proof. Makes an excellent enclosure. I then mounted a quarter inch board to the bottom, and fashioned a lip to catch on the cabin hand rail. They just sit there and plug into RCA jacks.. I'll post pixs when I'm finished.
