Looking for innovative modifications, creations, to allow self-stepping the mast for trailer sailing the Cat 27. Any solutions?

Home made Montana style

Hello, Jerry from Montana. I have a 96 Catalina 28 that I trailer about once a year. Last year we trailered to the San Juans. I built an A frame from a combination of 4" irrigation pipe and 2" galvanized pipe. It's kind of hard to explain, and I'm sorry I don't have any pictures. I built the top of the A out of wood to connect the two pieces of irrigation pipe and placed a pulley at the top of the A. The bottom of the A is attached to the trailer and allows it to be rotated up. The frame sat on the ground with the top of the A in front of the bow and trailer hitch. The A could then be rotated up to a vertical position and tied forward and back. I had a line fed through the pulley at the top of the A and used that line to hoist the mast to an upright position. I have an electric winch mounted on my pickup bed that supplies the lifting power. Once in place you just swivel the A frame back down to the ground. I have used it three times and it works great. If your still interested after this vague description, let me know and we can visit on phone or email. Hope this helps.
