Stepping the mast with an "A" frame?

Just a question for all the seasoned cat 30 owners. Is there anyone out there that steps there mast without the aid of other yachts or a crane? I will be doing this each season due to removing the boat from fresh "frozen" water. I have done it with alone with my Cat 25 and have helped with a Cat 27. I plan on using an "A" frame to hoist it. But the mast on a 30 is well "bigger!" Does anyone know how much it weighs? Any comment is appreciated!!! Thanks Cap't Ron

You sure?

In Portland (where we don't have to store for the winter, so costs usually are higher), it only costs $75 to have a crane unstep a mast. The mast on a C30 is significantly larger than on a C27 so if you're determined to do it yourself, I'd have as many hands around as possible. But I really think it's so risky you'd be much better off paying the $75 to have it done professionally. Why take a chance when it would cost thousands to replace it? LaDonna

Yes LaDonna, I'm sure...

I live in Utah. The nearest crane to our docks will cost $300 just to transport out. I have heard of a few 30's that the owners step them this way. If I were in the Great Salt Lake marina, cranes come often. But I'm a lone Cat 30 owner hoping to put mine on a fresh water lake . My boat is in San Diego now, but it needs to come home, so sad cause blue water is fantastic. Thanks for all of your information, I love hearing from sailors on this site! Sea ya...
