Unstepping a fifty foot mast weighing several hundred pounds is a serious matter that can cause a lot of destruction if all does not go well. I wonder what the liability and insurance implications might be.I've done quite a few things on my C30 in the fifteen years I have owner her. However, this is one job I would leave to a well insured professional with a shore mounted crane.
back in Dec I unstepped the mast of our C30 in a boat yard with a crane. even on the hard with a crane it took 4 grown men to handle lying her down. 48ft stick is alot to handle!
Why would you use the halyards of two other boats. Up here we step and unstep our masts every year, however we use a mast crane that is firmly planted in the ground. I wouldn't play around this one, you have too much to loose, including the mast. JS
