Stem Fitting

Has anyone had to replace their stem fitting on their 310? I became aware that this is a potential failure point on numerous models and certain years and so I inspected mine and found two small cracks in the area where this failure typically occurs (see pictures)20240326_124421.jpg20240326_124459.jpg20240326_124530.jpg20240326_124556.jpg. I understand that the design has been changed to minimize or eliminate this as a weak point but I am trying to identify the correct replacement. I am in contact with Catalina Direct, Garhauer and Sailboatowners.com for this but wanted to ask if anyone has done this before? I also would suggest if you have not you should inspect the fitting. FYI this is directly below the roller furler.

Good find. It appears that the angle of the fitting doesn't match the angle of the forestay, so that there has been constant tension over the years pulling up on the flat extension of the fitting. I hope you can get a replacement soon.

I've never noticed anything like this. I'll look this weekend for sure. Also I'm not sure I'm ready to move to saltwater from my fresh water rust free life:)

John,
You have the "new & improved" fitting. Notice how the thickness of your fitting does not vary while mine goes from thick to thin and that is the failure point. I will get this fitting now - just have to remove the original and send to Garhauer to match it up. What year is your 310?

ours is a bit different. no cracks last time

The one on our 310, hull #31, from 2000 is the new version. But it may have been replaced when the boat ran into the Santa Cruz Mile Buoy in its early days in a charter program. Great repair job from our local fiberglass experts.
