Does anyone know if a pedestal steering wheel brake was standard on a 1984 27' Hunter. On my pedestal (right side) it looks like may be a brake was was mounted but I can't tell because what ever was there is broken off.

Chances are...
...the binnacle was built with a wheel break on the starboard side (my '86 model did). Chances are that it was manufactured by Yacht Specialties/Merriman (defunct) and that some of the inner components may be salvageable. Maybe. If you stumble upon a used, serviceable wheel brake that fits...buy a lottery ticket asap. Luck like that deserves a reward. Good luck.
