Steering Rod between outboard motor and rudder

I was wondering if anybody has come up with a way to steer your oday with an outboard and not hit the rudder???? I feel bending over the back and working both at the same time while going into a slip may leave room for error. I just bought the 272 so I may be wrong. Any ideas woudl be great. Thank You

no problem with my 25

The only time I steer with the outboard and the rudder is backing into my slip. My 76' 25 fixed keel steers like it's on tracks doing so. Perfect every time. This model's outboard is offset to starboard making it relatively easy to control both at once. When you say "hit" the rudder, I assume you mean the rudder is getting in the way of the outboard? Not sure how the 272 is set up, maybe someone else can chime in.

I also just bought my O'day 25 if you ever get out to the western burbs give me a call, I keep it at Waconia. As far as steering, I just leave my outboard alone in a straight ahead setting, at whatever speed is appropriate and do all the steering with the rudder. My rudder doesn't hit the motor though so I don't know if it is different on a 27. I think that if I got in trouble putting it in somewhere, i.e. a heavy crosswind going into the slip, it would offer maximum steerage if I also used the motor to steer in conjuction with the rudder, just a thought.
