I recently bought a 1990 Pacific Seacraft 31, which turns out to be equipped with Yacht Specialties, not Edson, steering. I've tried to track down sources for information but have been told that Y-S was bought by Merriman, who,in turn, went out of business. The only source I found referred me to your site, so I assume that at least some Catalinas are equipped with Y-S pedestals. My unit is in generally good shape except for the wheel-axle bearings, which are quite dry and in need of lubrication. Does any participant has any information on these units, especially a manual illustrating disassembly-assembly and lubrication instructions? I'd be happy to reimburse the cost of copying and mailing if that should be the case. Is there any hope that there might be a supply of spare parts lurking somewhere? If there's no connection between Catalinas and Y-S, forgive the intrusion. Thanks and regards, Dick Wasteneys

Try this!

You might check the Cal list on Sailnet (sorry Phil). It is a very knowledgable and active list. I believe that YS systems were used exclusively as OEM equipment on Cals. I recall the subject coming up several times, so an archive check or query may be productive.
