Well, I know this has been reported before, but I went to my boat yesterday, I found the rudder loose from the steering. This is on a 2005 model Hunter 25. The weld was broken on the tab where the steering connects. The steering connection is held by only two bolts tack welded to the rudder assembly. I will be through-bolting this as my fix. While I am at it I will be adding some support material between the area where the mast crutch goes to keep the metal from bending under pressure. I am also going to attempt to modify the rudder so that it can be flipped up 180 degrees like the one on a Hunter 260. At this point I don't know if my weld failure happened because another boat hit my rudder at the marina, or if it was just a stress failure. At least it happened in the marina, rather than out on the water. I'll add photos to this post after the repair.
