The steering chain in my Hunter 336 snapped. Edson, the manufacturer do the system want around $300.00 for a kit, that includes cables, shackles, etc. in other words, they do not sell the chain alone. I found the same chain at a motorcycle parts store. The only difference is that it is not stainless steel. I think I can use it prividing I keep it greased. What's do you fellows think? The difference is about $250.00.

I think it will work great! As an ol' biker I can tell you that todays chains are sealed and self lubed. This means you need to only keep it clean and a light oil coating on it. It may well be superior to the original chain. Chief
Chain? Last I checked, Hunters in general and specifically the 336 had a cable drive. Did some 'genius' PO try to 'improve' the system by being cheap?
I think the older Edison pedestals used the chain/sprocket on the wheel. My chain is only about a foot before connecting to the wire rope that moves the radial drive wheel.
The stainless steel chain, besides reducing corrosion, was to be a non-magnetic grade so the compass would work. Everything in the pedestal is non-magnetic metals so the big whiskey compass would work.

If the chain snapped you should look closely at the rest of the system. the cables may also be getting ready to go. I'd not want to loose my rudder for $250
