My name is Mac......I own a 1979 Hunter 30 and I recently had to replace the steering cables. I pulled the Edson pedestal, replaced the cables, sprockets, mounting plate and pulleys. My question is......how do the cables correctly attach to the rudder post? When the cables pass thru the two pulleys on the mounting plate, do they "cross over" before wrapping around the "guide wheel pulley" on the rudder post? Or do they simply wrap straight around the "guide wheel pulley" and fasten the cable ends into the set screws ? Thank you.

Mac, you'll probably get a reply before I get to my 31 this weekend. I have the steering cables exposed in the aft berth and will take some pictures for you. I'm assuming the 30 and 31 are pretty much the same.
Mac- I have a 1986 H31. Last year I pulled my pedestal. My cables do cross over, but they do so inside the pedestal, on the vertical run, not on the horizontal. Took me a while to art that out.
