I've owned my boat for 3 years and noticed that it doesn't steer in reverse as well to starboard as it does to port. This winter while it was out of the water, I noted that the steering is not "centered" and that it turns much further to one side (explaining the better backing in one direction). It has Edson Wheel steering and I am assuming this can simply be adjusted. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it something anyone can do or does it take a "technician"? Thanks.

Go to Edson's website edsonmarine.com and look at the wheel steering manual so you know what you're dealing with. It's pretty simple - you just have to be a contortionist to get to the steering quadrant if that's the problem. There's a stop on the quadrant - can't be adjusted but could be hitting something else that prevents full swing. The steering wheel is a chain drive (like a bicycle chain) that then has cables attached to it that go down the pedestal to the quadrant. Could be that the chain isn't centered so you run out of links turning one way. Edson's website shows you how to open the top of the pedestal to get to that as well. Good luck!

We have a O"day 28 withn the Edson steering and when we replaced the plywood under thr cockpit floor we removed the unit and found the stops were not even i. e. the rudder would turn more one way than the other. It would be a simple matter to move the stop to the proper postion. Good Luck
