Steeping Mast on 25' Oday

Hello im Sure this May have Been Asked but my Search of the Fourum Turned up No Results..Im New to Sailing im Going to N.C to Pick Up my New to Me 25 ft O'Day im in need of Instructions on Steeping the Mast ill probly have two maybe Three Persons (Inexperienced) Including myself.The Place im picking it Up from has Only a Boat Ramp for Launching and No Equipmet (Ie. Forklifts) Dont want to travel to N.C from N.J

I too am new to owning my own sailboat... I have a friend who taught me how to step my mast with only 1 or 2 people.... I made a gin pole with eyelets on top in opposite directions (forward, reverse) facing... then drilled a hole crossways (port to starboard) at the bottom... I attached 2 flanges to the deck in front of the mast step to fasten the pole into.... I then fasten the jib halyard to the pole, and block and tackle to the pole, then to the forestay chain plate on the bow... then I hoist it up....

I used the jib halyard (the main halyard will also work. Even the fore stay or the jib furler but you'll need some one at the mast to hold it up. It doesn't take much to hold it steady when it's up) hooked to the end of the a-frame. It works pretty well, up or down, especially with one or two extra hands. You'll need some kind of a crutch to catch it after it comes down (I assume you're taking it down). Just go slow, think it through and watch for anything catching or straining. The mast weighs about 60#. Let us know if you need more info.

Maybe you are putting it up. Is it on a trailer? Will you be sailing it home? No a-frame; it can be stepped with three sturdy individuals. Two if they're extra sturdy.

I had a problem with the trailer at a standstill due to the trailer not being road ready...but i will be trailering the boat. Once I get it from NC to NJ

Trailered my (New to me) Boat over the weekend from Kerr Lake Henderson NC to East Orange NJ and after a few hours sleep on to the Marina in Parlin/Sayerville NJ

Congrats on your new O'day. Great boat. I agree with RBone, two guys can lower the mast and three could raise it. Just work out a plan ahead of time so you don't get stuck half way up or down.
