I'll the steaming light only work if engine running and in gear? Checked all nag lights and looked good, but couldn't get steaming light on???

it should work regardless of engine operation. This might sound silly but it's a separate switch from running lights. Check your panel one more time; if not it's likely a burnt bulb or loose connection. No easy to find out but go up the mast... ;-(
good luck

Looks like I am heading up! I have separate switches for running, anchor, and steaming. The rest work. Oh well, at least I can add combo steamer and deck light when I go up :)

before you go up use a multi meter to see if you have circuit continuity. If you get a resistance reading when you probe both wires that go to the light then the bulb is not burned out. If there is no reading it probably is burned out. Worth a few minutes before going up the mast to be sure.

If your installing deck lights make sure the steaming light and Deck light won't be on at the same time. And don't hook deck lights into Anchor light. You may have to run more wires inside the mast.

Great advice! Thanks

Maybe, but it should be easy to check with an Ohm Meter

Nope, I would have to rewire. I will def check with meter first.

Also, short across the switch contacts in case of a faulty switch... One constant problem I have on the boat is the steaming light not working. Somehow the bulb was blown and all I had ever done was turn it on to make sure it worked- I had never even sailed at night! If I was installing a steaming light, I'd put it low enough that you can get to it with a step ladder from the deck.
