My steaming light went out and the yard can't fix with the mast up
for some reason. They said to just use the anchor light instead. Is this
legal or OK to do ??

No, not legal to use an anchor light when motoring at night. Get in a bosums chair and fix the light.

No its not legal but it sure beats having nothing on.

But why not just go up the mast and check out the bulb and connections? Most likely one of these two and you don't need to take the mast down for either. It sounds like the yard is trying to get more money from you than they should.

It is Legal if You Disable the Stern Light

Some boats however are wired in such a manner that the anchor light will not work if the nav lights are switched on.

I'm working the same problem on my H30 - my temp solution is - bought a cheap battery operated light with 4 AAA batteries and when I need to be legal, I stand on my tip toes and bungee cord it to the mast "1/2 way up".....
