I have a Catalina 25 with inboard diesel. I have not been able to get the steaming light to come on. There is not a switch on the electrical switch panel. A friend though it should come on when the engine is running but I have not been able to verify that. The bulb is good and the wiring to the step is good-just no power. I will have the mast down again mid august to work on the deck light which stopped working last week. Anyone know where the power to the steaming light should come from?

I've got a multi-meter in my boat...we'll test the cannon plug next time we're both out. I'm thinking I'll be out there tomorrow.

On my boat, my electrical panel has a rocker for the steamer. However, only one light will work at a time...either the anchor or steamer. Both will not work at the same time. I believe the steamer rocker is labeled "Bow".

Of course the bow lights, anchor & steamer, & stern lights should all function if you are planning to be out underway after dark to be legal. Although y'all are on a lake & not the Chesapeake. But I would be more afraid of drunk power boaters wailing into you then anything else on a lake. They'll smack into you on the Chesapeake as well. I can testify to that! I've also read some horror stories in the Boat U.S. mag. last year about a sail boat that was run over & cut in half by a drunk a@# power boater hitting the sail boat at about 40 mph in the dark while they were at anchor. You can't be too careful out there!
