steaming light not working

On my '93 23.5 I have a switch on the electrical panel labeled steaming light, but nothing lights up when I have it on. I have noticed that only one of the bulbs (I think the aft bulb) at the top of the mast lights up when I turn on the mast light. Could it be that the forward bulb is the steaming light, but just isn't working for whatever reason? Or should both bulbs, aft and front, be lighting up when the mast light is turned on? I have just changed the bulbs. The one that is not working was rusted pretty good, so I did clean it as well as I could, but to no effect. Thanks, Ben

the answer was in the achives

mast/steaming lights Submitted by Ed Knebel on 07/29 at 11:22AM regarding Hunter 23.5 The next time your mast is down, look at the light fixture on the top of the mast. The fixture has 2 lens and lights, the forward facing light is the steaming light(used whenever the motor is in use at night) in addition to the running lights. The rear facing light is the mast light. the mast light and the steaming light are used in combination to give a 360 degree anchor light. Hope that helps.

Warning

Whatever you do, resist the urge to climb the mast. A 23.5 mast is a tad thin to be going up and down. What you need to hoist up is a precocious six-year-old boy who's good with his hands. Alas, they are all taken by Catholic priests.

It is the plug between the mast and the deck clean that and your probably back in business.
