Staysail boom length

On my H37c, the staysail boom is close to the mast when level at the lowest position. I'd like to hoist the sail higher but it interferes with the mast. It has 3 sheaves internally at the aft end. I'm not sure the purpose other than for the outhaul. I'm wondering if it is the original boom. I'm considering cutting it shorter by 3". Thoughts? Also... can't seem to post a photo!

Dan, that sure looks like the original boom. I will be at my boat later today and tomorrow and measure it.

I know that if you raise the boom not very much it hits the mast.

Ok. 122 inches from the aft end of the boom to the pin at the fore end.

Thanks, I'll compare that with what I have. My outhaul brings the sale only 10 in short of the end of the boom.
