overnight sails are awesome and i love them we did our watches well and it worked out nicely--yes we got tired--but that worked out when we anchored and rested for a few days.
there is a lot more out there than you think, if you think you will get bored while at sea.
also you can bring with you those book lights to read by--but that will screw up your night vision. you can steer by the stars and moon. you can watch the sea and watch the course you are following and you can scan the horizon frequently. that is important. we used a 4 hour watch system around a 10-2-6 pattern. worked great.
dont forget mommy nature has a foul sense of humor--just when you think you are ok, she will give you something to think about--so keep your eyes on the weather. NOAA does err.
if you get sleepy, ask the gods to have the seas poop you--that will definitely wake you up.
or have a flying fish hit you in the face. that works also. dolphins streaking out of a wave next to the boat---that will do it---think about who will catch you if you fall overboard--that should really do the trick. seriously.

A friend of mine used to do that while driving when he was so drunk he was seeing double.
I agree, Zeehag. As a city boy, I rarely get to see all the stars undisturbed by artificial ambient light. Same with scuba diving at night - the amazing things we'd see!!
is from NASA--hubble telescope--but is of the night sky--- there are all kinds of cool sights in sky and in sea---milky way is awesome whenye are away from land, where ye cannot see it unless you are way out in the boonies!!!
