Stay Stream 2 Furler... ForeStay Tension Adjust

Does any one have experiance with a Stay-Stream 2 Furler? My Forestay seems to have too much sag and I would like to know how I get access to the forestay turnbuckle so I can increase tension a bit. I know they are out of production, so its very important that I don't start taking it appart by trial and error and risk loosing parts overboard that can't be replaced. How does one measure forestay tension with a furler in place? I am assuming a Loos gauge won't help.Bill EblingYestarday's Dream1985 H31Crab Alley BayKent Island MD

Furler tension.

My first comment would be that all furlers seem loose to my view. To measure you could loosen the shrouds and then measure the backstay with a Loos gauge. In fact that may be where your adjustment is. Unless the result is too much rake that is.I cannot envision mine exactly but I think there is a normal turnbuckle below the drum at the headstem. And I think I used two tensioned halyards to the toerail while I adjusted it in 2002. My Hyde Staystream continues to work well(1979).

Ed. Do you have a staystream 1 or 2..?

The Staystream 2 is a sectional type furler with a split drum. I think the 2 was designed so it could be shipped in pieces for a DIY install, while I believe the Stream Stay 1 was a continous furler. They may attach to the stem fitting differently...I don't know.I've looked under my (split) drum and don't see a turnbuckle. Unfortunately, Rigrite only has the parts exploded for the StreamStay 1. I have a Johnson Split backstay adjuster that takes up some of the forestay sag, but I would like to get it a little tighter. Hoping that I could tighten up a bit at the stemhead.btw. I have not has any problems with the furler either. I can't find any documentation of the furler in the boats papers. I don't know when it was installed. I am the third owner. Good point Bill.

Mine is a Staystream One. I would call Rig-rite. I have found them helpful in the past.
