Newbie here too. I also just got a Starwind 19. My mast and boom are ok, but there's a lot of fiberglass work in my future and the sails are original I think! I would love to share any info. I'm away from her, but pretty sure Dwyer made mine('82). Boom 8'10"?

I think this is probably true. I sail my 10 foot dinghy 3 times as much as my Macgregor 26D even when both of them are in the water. Unfortunately my wife won't sail in the dinghy with me.
I love hearing from newbie sailors. It brings back fond memories of my own boat building and restoring projects. I expect that I'll be keeping the boat I have now for a good long time but I'm still open for another boat project, especially something between 14 and 19 feet.
If the boom will clear the backstay a few more inches won't hurt. I actually added 8 inches to my boom so I could get a better purchase for my outhaul.
