You are not far from me... I have a boom (and mast) from an old Macgregor V21. If you are willing to drive, you can have it. It is about a foot longer than you need but you could cut it with a hack saw and reattach the end cap.

The Starwind was designed by Jim Taylor who also designed the Precision line of boats.
There is a Starwind yahoo group, you might post over there.

Also, I know Jim Taylor used Dwyer Mast Co. you could contact them to see if they made it for the Starwind.

Finally I know of one person who has a Starwind 19 but I don't see him very often. See what you can find out before I try to track him down. I would start with Dwyer first.

Hmmm I think MacGregor also used Dwyer but I'm not sure. If you think you want the one I have, I could snap a pic with a tape measure running around so you can check to make sure it is compatible before you drive all the way to central VA.

You can have it....

I helped a guy convert an old Mac V21 into a fishing boat ---YEARS AGO. We removed the keel, all of the sailing hardware etc. He parted out most of the good stuff then bailed and I've been storing his mast and boom ever since. Do me a favor and take it... :)

That is a cute boat... They say the smaller the boat, the more you sail it. So resist the urge for bigger-boat-itis. I used to have a nice sized pocket cruiser but my kids also liked hanging out with dad and I had to scale up to sleep us all. I've been thinking I might get a ComPac once all of the kids are out of the house.

Looks like your bow eye needs to be tightened up.

Macgregor 21 Venture Delaware ...
Welcome Steve, I'm another newbie to sailing and sailboat owning. My project - also a first sailboat - is a '74 MacGregor V21. Best I can tell my mast and boom are usable though the gooseneck needs help. I'm looking for bits and pieces for my boat too. Specifically I'm on the lookout for a pulpit and/or pushpit. doesn't have to be V21 specific, just reasonably sized and salvageable. Another part that would be nice to find is a stern motor mount as the one that is on my boat has a section of the mounting "pad" cracked in a way I doubt I'll be able to save it. Steve, if it turns out you don't need the mast/boom combo that rgranger is offering, I'll be happy to accept it if he still wants to let it go as it would be nice to have a spare for my boat and his gooseneck might be in better shape than the one I have. Other items on my watch for/wish list are a main and jib, winches/handles and a small (10 ish HP) outboard -- pretty much anything anybody thinks might be useful I'd appreciate a chance to learn about as I'm sure I'll find things I need as I work through my project. My big push at present it refurbishing the swing keel and bottom so if anybody has any 400 Lb. paperweights they want moved, I might be able to help. I'm in Dover, Delaware and willing to do some driving. Thanks for any help, leads and suggestions.

Congrats on your new boat. I am a big fan of the Macs. They are not fancy boats but they are fast and fun to sail... and you can fix them up a lot. I've owned two myself and a Mac V22 as well. Before I purchased my Hunter 26, I was dead set on a Mac 26s or 26d. Attached are a few pics of one of my Mac v21 sailboats that I restored.

Sorry, I don't have any other V21 parts other than the mast/boom and standing rigging. I can offer you the mast right now but I have a feeling Capt. Lent will be wanting the boom. I could be available to either of you late next week. As far as getting the parts home... you might consider putting your boat in the water for a day, then driving the trailer to my house to pick up the mast and/or boom. Strap it to the trailer with some bungees and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the quick positive reply and thanks for being willing to share the mast with me. The mast and any miscellaneous parts of standing rigging you're willing to contribute will certainly be appreciated as some of what came with my rig look like they've seen better days, Your V21 pics look quite a bit similar to mine. By any chance do you have any pics of your interior(s)? Reason for asking is that my boat's liner has been hacked quite a bit on the port side where it steps down from the V-berth area and it would be helpful to see some pictures of the unadulterated version for reference. Good idea on the trailer as a mast-transport means. As it happens, I'm almost finished constructing a lift to pick my boat up from its trailer so I can drop - er - lower the keel out for refurb and some bottom work. Hoping to have that ready to lift tomorrow and have the craft in the slings within a few days which would make the trailer available. I was thinking I could just strap it to the roof rack of my station wagon as it wouldn't be too heavy but at 24' it would probably be too long. Now that I'm thinking about it, my trailer is only 17' long (the boat hangs over the bunk boards almost 5') so I'll probably have to rig supports that will allow the excess length to travel fwd of the hitch above the car's roof as I don't think it would be safe to allow the excess length to trail behind where it might get hit. Got some head scratching to do.

Be careful, that keel weights 400 lbs. And it would be illegal to let the mast hang more than 6' off of the back of the trailer. So yes.... some head scratching to do. I think the interior of my V21 was bare fiberglass and I painted it white. A nice trick I figured out later is to hang nylon trunk organizers on the walls. The pouches make a great place to store all kinds of stuff

Yeah, that 400 Lb keel will present its own set of challenges. I have a pretty stout dolly with good sized wheels that should help me cart it to where I can support/lift it safely to work on. Thinking on the mast transport I should be able to support it on some struts on a shorter utility trailer I have and allow the fwd end to be cradled in a padded "adapter" I'll make to attach to one of my roof rack cross bars of the car to keep the entire mast within the length of my car-trailer combo. If I make my adapter so it can pivot Should be able to keep the height under 6' and see the fwd end of things from my windshield. You mentioned later next week for your availability. If you let me know how that's looking hopefully we can set something up. Any chance you could post a/some pics of the mast, especially the mast head? Mine looks like it's been modded/repaired so I'm hoping maybe yours may be in better shape up top than mine. Does yours also still have spreaders and associated fittings? Thanks.

Thanks, that's great! I did some good measuring and testing this afternoon and think I have a good, safe, legal solution worked out for the transport. Let me know when would be convenient for you to allow me to make the pickup.

Great hearing from you Steve. I, too am a newbie and have a Starwind 19 that a friend gave me. He called yesterday telling me he has a folder full of information for the boat and it was on the way. Once I have it in my hands, I can forward or post info to this site.
