Clementise,
The pull handle on the control panel is the engine shut off mechanism. Do not turn your ignition key to stop the engine. If you do, it can damage the alternator. Pull the kill cable, then push it back it when the engine quits. I'm assuming your engine is a Uinversal M25. Try Universal M25 on your browser. You will probably end up at Torreson Diesel, which has great literature. CatalinaDirect.com also has a great tech support component.

Good Luck,

Fogg

And make sure you push it back in before you use the engine again to save you from a lot of cursing, yelling and unnecessary, time consuming, anger invoking troubleshooting! Not that I did that or anything...I'm just saying :D

I tried putting the M25XPB manual on the download section of this site but it was too big I believe. Torresen does have all of the for download.

Clementise, as others have noted above, the pull out type lever at the panel is the engine shut off - basically cuts off fuel to the engine, because diesel engines do not have spark plugs, & operate via engine compression. The water inlet vlave I mentioned before should be near the engine compartment - the thru hull valve, which runs to the engine, & in your case to the water pump then the heat exchanger.
The M25 is a good, reliable diesel engine, but you must learn the correct starting procedure, operation, and maintenance to make it last. Believe me its an investment, & many of us owning older C 30's would love to upgarade to this model engine, & may have to someday when the old Universals and Atomics wear out!
