Starting engine while dry docked

We recently purchased an O-day 34. The boat was and still is dry docked and during the survey the engine was only run for us long enough to find a bad water pump. Water pump was rebuilt and re-installed. We are about to launch the boat and would like to start the engine and allow it to run for a short time. We made an adaptor to directly run a hose into the fresh water inlet for a the fresh water supply. Has anyone ever done this? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Did the same thing

Last year when our 322 was on the hard. You indicated you have adapted a hose connection to the intake. Make sure you have enough water to circulate through the system, 5 gallon bucket should be more than enough.do not connect to a pressurized water source, you want the water pump to do the work. Water Feed

Hi Ken,Suggest you put the raw water feed in a bucket and the bucket should be about water level. If you use a hose from yard water - you will not confirm the water pump can draw water because it will be forced fed.You should let the engine run for at least 10 minutes to check out the thermostat and then run antifreeze.Good Luck,Bob
