I have the big diesel in my 84 Catalina. It takes both batteries to start it. I don't like this system. Has anyone installed a third "starting" battery? How was it done? Anyone have it done professionally? How much did it cost? Any other ideas on how to change the original battery system on an 1984 30 footer?

I've got a c27 and haven't added a dedicated starting battery, but check the link below, it's a nicely diagramed pic of adding a dedicated starting batt to a c30. I think you could do this yourself and not bother with paying a pro.

Cranking system

I have the M25XP in my C-30. I didn't like the way the cables were sized and routed so I made a change. you can see it at ftp.sailnet.com/c30, click on "Faith". Faith now starts almost immediately. She has one group 24 "starting battery".

What is the symptom, or problem?

I am thinking of rewiring my starter and glow plugs using selonoids. Sometimes the starter just clicks, and if I push the button several times it starts turning the engine over. Is this the problem of voltage, or bad starter? I had the starter tested at a shop, OK, And I replaced the starter selonoid.
