A question for the assembly-

I have just about everything ready to go to splash "Heretic," except the engine wouldn't turn over. We ran some testing, and determined the starter was dead. Carefully diagrammed the wiring and pulled it to be rebuilt. Next day, we have our part.

This evening, we installed the starter, and still no joy. Although the starter was bad, I think it was miswired. I have one wire with a spade tip going into the spade receptacle, and 4 other wires, including a larger red one, going into the upper post on the solenoid. The lower post, which connects by a black wire to the motor, has/had no wires run to it at all.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Spade connector is from the ignition key switch.

Should be:

1-2-B switch to starter big lug - simple, that's all.

Could have:

wire from starter to alternator. This could have the 1-2-B "C" post wired to the alternator output with a small wire between the AO and the starter. Only you can know.

Try reviewing the wiring schematic on this wiring harness upgrade article, should help you out. Download or view the associated wiring diagrams.

Well, it turns out the problem was electrical after all. To whit, a battery cable had dropped out of sight and wasn't grounding the engine. Engine runs like a champ now. Splashing on monday.

And yes, I'm preparing a wiring diagram tailored to my girl specifically.
