Starter problem on my Hunter 380: Help!

Hello! Yesterday my starter motor burn... Impossible to stop the motor... I cut electricity etc... But nothing...

The starter is definitively dead... Completely burn!

But... I search now to buy in my country a new one. But... On the Hunter 380 and the Yanmar 3JH2E for some spare it's not the common for this motor.

Can you give me if you have the good information about the good starter for buy it?

Check Amazon France, Moteur de demarrage Yanmar Hitachi Marine @ approx. 200 Euro. A rebuild original equipment starter is usually better than an After Market unit; look for an electrical rebuild shop in your area. usually automotive shops can get the japanese components to repair your unit.

I see you found a Hunter boat to your liking. Sorry for the bad luck for the starter motor. Your Yanmar doesn’t have the red button close to the injection pump to cut the engine?

No! When i read your message i search this button, no. All is ok on this boat, a lot of new think like AC, Freezer, Sails, motor of tender, solar panel, battery etc... And not a so bad electronic. I'm so happy. n a first time i prefer to buy a Hunter 38, but now i think the 380 is cool and good under sail. I have only one problem... The starter. Today is go away... Monday i have the new one.

Count the teeth on the starter when you remove it. What is the starter doing? Hunters suffer from a known malady. Some times you push the starter button and nothing happens; it is due to electrical resistance build up in the in the wiring between the starter solenoid and the control panel and the solution is to replace wiring and connectors or install an auxilliary solenoid. Have the starter checked before you order a new one.

Hello, thanks for your idea, i didn't know this problem. It's the reason why i have a second push button for start the motor install by a mechanic? For my starter, is dead. Completely burn! I comman a new one.

J'avais refais mon yanmar démarreur par un spécialiste ici a Marseille. Il m'avait prêter un démarreur chinois en attendant...après 5 jours le corps métallique fissuré. Problème de fabrication pas cher chinois!!
L'hitachi d'origine est incomparable.

Alors le mecano à reçu le démarreur neuf... Mais ne s'adapte pas, et tant mieux, car en regardant autour de lui chez ses collégues il en a trouve d'occasion et tout est OK maintenant!!

Benny... Not just hunters but lots of boats with Yanmar. Thé câble from the ignition passes too close to the hot exhaust. Over the years this helps increase resistance. Then pressing the starter 3 or 4 times nothing happens.
I upgraded mine for a tinned 10awg wire. Added some heat résistant wrap and everything has been fine since. I could have added a start Relay too but decided that could break down.
