Hi Jon, do you have at least 12 volts reaching...

the starter motor? Did you try bypassing the starter solenoid to see if the starter motor spins? Do these first to help isolate the problem. BTW, what make and model engine do you have? Terry

Sometimes...

...the starter won't kick, but the alarm will sound. In this case, rap the starter housing with a solid object two times (rap, rap) and see if that helps. Then try it again. Or make sure ALL connections, (even on the 1,BOTH, 2 switch) are shiny and bright. If these fail, then cross the + and - poles on the starter with two insulated screw drivers, but only for a second, with the ignition switch ON. If this fails, you have a dead battery or starter. Then try a jumper pack to eliminate the battery option. Good Luck!

could be several things

A good doctor always checks the symptoms first. When you hit the stater button what sound does it make? click, click, click, click..........click? Click? No sound? Engine turns over slowly then rapid clicking?

Same Yanmar Problem On Three Boats

My past three Hunter boats (30-31-336) with Yanmar engines had the same problem with the starter wiring. Too many voltage drops, loose connections, rust, etc. Every repair professional advised to jump around the undersized starter wire with 12 gage jumper wire and spring switch which I did. No starter problems now.

starter motor fixed

I fixed my starter motor on my 1980 30 hunter by changing ground wire from battery to ground. Saved a bit of money JON
