starter/generator Volvo Md6a

Hello all,
I've just fried my starter/generator on my '72 Albin Vega "Journey".
It seems that it is a unique item and there are no comparable units
made now. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement or another
type that can be adapted to the Volvo Md6a 10 hp diesel? It is made
by Bosch and the model # looks like 0010-350-004. The other markings
on it say 14V, 11A 32.
Help please!
Thanks,
Bob Tantillo

Brian,
Thanks, that sounds like a reasonable alternative. I'll talk to the
shop about trying that. By the way, where did you mount the
alternator? There isn't a lot of room around my engine.

I had my starter for my MD6B rebuilt last year. I
believe it is the same Bosch model that you mentioned.
Unless it is really 'FUBAR' you should be able to find
a local shop to rebuild yours. A local marine engine
shop didn't have the facilities on premise but shipped
it to another shop and I had it back within a week.

Hi Bob

If you take it to a motor rewind company they will be able to rwind the two
sets of windings, not cheap but possible. I always hold a couple of spares in
the Uk but the postage to the USA makes it uneconomical to send.

Hi All

The MD6B has a starter motor rather than a Dynastart in t5he MD6A. Different
system as the MD6B uses a toothed ring on the flywheel whilst teh
MD6A/Dynatart
uses two belts.

Is the starter-generator on the O 21 and O22 the same unit? If so, it
increases the possibilities of finding a replacement unit.

Hi

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS UNREPAIRABLE. tHE VERY WORST CASE IS THE TWO SETS OF
WINDINGS NEED REWINDING, THE BEARINGNEEDS REPLACING AND THE BRUCHES NEED
CHANGING. TOTAL COST IN THE UK FOR A COMPLETE REBUILD IS ABOUT £200.

TAKE IT TO A SPECIALIST MOTOR REWIND COMPANY.

KIND REGARDS

Hi Mort

The starter part is the same but the generator gives less power (8amp as
opposed to about 11 amp).

Dear Steve,It was a specialist rewinding shop that said it's unfixable. They say there are no parts available; they've repaired one in the past year and said they had a bear of a time finding parts and it took them a looooong time to locate them. Thanks, Bob

Hi
I certainly am interested. What are you asking for it? Are you anywhere near Connecticut? I need to get it as soon as possible and I imagine shipping something that heavy is going to cost a bit. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks, Bob Tantillo John Starace giani28582@... wrote:HI
