I am looking on Amazon at the moment for the remote a member has mentioned, not 1.50$ but still interesting, now some are cheaper and some
More expensive (as to be expected)
Does anyone have any ideas on the amperage I should be looking at?
I did find one with a 20 amp relay, would that be sufficient?

All depends on the draw of your starter relay. Now is the time to place a series ammeter at the current push button starter and see what kind of amperage the starter relay pulls and then size your remote switch accordingly.

I used this push button switch on an outboard for three or so years before I sold the boat. It's rated for 50 Chinese amps so I'd estimate at least 25 real amps. Zero issues even though it may have occasionally gotten dunked. It's available in red as well. Connect this in parallel with your existing switch.

Ok, thank you very much, I was looking at the same one on Amazon last night.
I need to refresh on my electronics and electrical knowledge, I completely forgot that I could just put it in parallel :banghead:
I guess my brain is totally fried lately, too many hours at work and working on the boat.

now to find where to mount it, any ideas on a housing for it? Make that an affordable one

Take a pic of your preferred mounting locations. I'll be happy to make a few recommendations.

I would probably just do what the PO did, the cables run behind the SS tubing and is ty-wrapped around the tubing, there are cable clams on the cockpit floor

I finally had the time to go to the boat and I actually remembered to take pics of where the button would be good.
Option A: under the plotter, maybe a plastic electrical box screwed under the plotter support?

option B: second picture, near the wood drink/binocular holder and the tubing

if I do option A: I might have room for the ignition key as well, yes more wiring but a lot more convenience. Not sure about the key yet

I'd love to see integrated into the wood where a compass would normally be but that's a lot of work to secure the wire inside the pedestal.

I believe the push button switch fits into a standard junction box hole. When I installed it in my outboard, I used a couple of large washers to adapt it to the hole in the motor housing. You could use some multiconductor wire to add the key switch to the same box as the starter button. Try typing in "plastic junction box" into amazon to see if any fit your needs

Quick electrical question
What size wires should I run if I want to move the ignition key up there, I estimate it would be about 72-84” further, maybe less
I saw some nice 14/5 tinned wire at my local chandlery, so I would only need one cable glands.
Do you all think that would be a good size?

Fred, if you're going to mess with electricity on the boat you need to know how to use the ABYC Ampacity tables. These tables will tell you what size wire you need for what load and the round trip distance, from source and back. The tables are pretty self-explanatory, determine the load, i.e. amps, that will be passing through the cable, the acceptable voltage drop (3% is best), and the length of the run. Then find your answer in the tables.
