star alarm

while cleaning the cockpit locker I came across a small black item, that appears to be some kind of alarm.Two wires led to this item yet only one was connected.One was browm the other black.I followed the wires which led to the engine which leads me to believe that this may be some kind of smoke detector or alarm related to the engine. This itim has the words "star" written on it with the letters FMB-628. can any one help idetify this item it seems important.

Richard, This small black item you have found may be an alarm. You need to determine exactly where on the engine the wires lead. This item may be an oil pressure switch. If it is, one wire should lead to a pressure switch that is probably close to your oil filter.
