Hello all, I need the standing rigging specs for my 1988 Cat 30. I've searched the archives and the Catalina site. Any ideas? Thanks Robb

Mine were close

My '89 mkII standard rig had the same dimensions as published except for the forestay and backstay. The trend on the newer boats is to raise the split in the backstay to make more room at the helm and for easier passage thru the open transoms of the newest models. Decide for yourself how high you want it. If your mast is where you want it as far as rake is concerned (nearly zero rake is recommended) then try to duplicate the measurement of your current forestay. If you have a jib furler that can be tricky as some furlers need to have the foil disassembled to pass the new wire thru. You also need an end with no fitting on the forestay to pass thru some foils so get it extra long and then cut to the proper length and install a sta-lock or norsman fitting.

size?

are your uppers and fore and back stays all 1/4". They didn't upgrade to 5/16's did they?

Yes, 1/4 inch

Dont oversize rigging because it still needs to be tightened to 15% of breaking strength, which is thousands of pounds more stress at the chainplate then what the boat was originally designed to handle. Besides, there is plenty of saftey factor in the original size.
