There are several things to look for when considering replacing standing rigging.  First, is it stretched where you can no longer adjust the turnbuckles down any further and if so, replace.  Any broken wires should be replaced without any question.  Also, look at the studs where the wires are crimped into the stud for any signs of corrosion.  If using rigging tape over the turnbuckle, make sure that water is not trapped by covering the threaded portion and if so, put holes in the tape to allow water to escape.  If you try going up a bonson's chair on an 18 foot sailboat mast, It may bend and break which did in my case due to my buzzle butt.
