Oday 28 St Joseph, MI
Ive searched high and low for definitive numbers for setting the tension on the standing rigging on my O'Day 28. Can anyone tell me to what tension the individual shrouds and stays are set? Otherwise can someone reccomend a rigger who can do this in the St. Joseph, Michigan area?

The tension on the rig is determined by the type and size of the wire. For example 1 X 19 Stainless wire 3/16" thick is rated for a breaking strength of 4,800 lbs. The tension on the rig should be set at 10% to 12% of the breaking strength or around 530 lbs. Most boats use 1 X 19 stainless wire for the standing rigging. Get a "Loos Gauge" rig tuning tool and it will have a indentation to measure the size of the wire and a table to indicate the required tension as well as measuring the actual tension on the wire as you tighten the turnbuckles.
