Propellor Head;
If it was me, I would buy a new shroud that is swaged but that is me. I will tell you that should you ever sell the boat, any rigging that is different, many will walk away. As for that bent stud, do not try to straighten it as you will weaken it further and could snap.

That's the long term plan Dave. Hard to pass on a safe $20 mid term solution. Five years from now I'll have the option of replacing all the standing rigging. Maybe with some fancy synthetic...

I think that is $20 down the drain. I the price of a new one is out of reach for now just keep a close eye on it. I'd replace the single shroud and plan a schedule to replace the remaining 3 after replacing the forestay (there is only one of those).

You could attach the mast raising shrouds for some added insurance until that one is replaced.

I guess we have to agree to disagree on that point. In my view, if it's worth keeping an eye on or hooking up the baby stays then it's worth $20 so that you don't have to. I considered leaving it alone but was advised from more than one source that it was unsafe.

BTW: The shrouds on this boat are swept back so they also do the job of a backstay. The mast raising stays won't help in this regard.

I bought a new forestay with one end swaged from a rigger in Annapolis, by mail. It was not all that expensive, and if I recall was less than the cost of the Hayn swageless fitting I needed for the top. If you have not, price a whole new stay with tball and stud already swaged - it may be Affordable enough for peace of mind gained.

What isaksp00 said.... you can buy a complete set of standing rigging for an H26 for $398 and that includes 5 lines

I'm guessing an H23 would be a little less and since you only want one line... it might be less than $100 and no worries. Just replace the existing shroud and go sailing. There is a "contact us" link and I've had really great responses when I've asked them about specific parts. This site does a great job of finding parts for older boats.

I have the experience with swagless studs putting them on but one wrong mistake by one without experience can cause issues if not the loss of a mast. This is one reason I suggested getting a new shroud. By the time you order a new shroud, the cost is not that much difference.
However, I have always said, if you are trying to save a buck over safety, that is the person's choice but for me, I never argue when it comes to being safe, I suggest a new shroud will always be my recommendation..

I suspect a single swageless fitting (and Uncle Dave is correct - you need to be careful when fitting it, but if you are handy it is doable) may actually be more expensive than ordering the whole stay with fittings swaged on - but check it. I sent my old one in so the fitter could duplicate the fittings and length. If you have a tball at the top, check with the company first - many no longer had the older style tball that my '91 hull needed; only one I found actually was able to get it. If this SBO site does swaging, I suspect they'd be able to get it.

BTW: The swageless fitting was already ruled out because they don't make one with the size stud I need. What I'm going with is adding an extra toggle to bottom end of the turnbuckle. This will add the necessary length. This is the $20 fix I was referring to. As I understand it, this is not an unusual way to add an inch to a stay and there's negligible additional risk. Does anyone disagree? BTW: for some reason, the standing rigging kit for the 23.5 is $720. Don't know why it would be more than the H26..

call seco south for a quote who made the original rigging for your boat. As for the cost, it probably includes all the lines and shackles as well.
