Has anyone replaced theirs lately? I have an '87 T/R which I just purchased. There is no evidence that the standing rigging has ever been replaced. So, for some peace of mind I would like to move forward with this project. Can someone recomend a source? How about material? Has anyone tried Dyform? Whats the typical replacement cost? Did you use the standard measurements off the spec sheet? I searched the archives with no results... Thanks

New Standing Rigging

I recently had the standing rigging replaced on my "new" 84 C30 SR. The surveyor red tagged it - and guess what - a turnbuckle broke as they were taking it off. My surveyor was right! I had the work done for me. I do know that they sent out the old rigging and had the new rigging made from it rather than go with the spec sheet. The total cost was $1750 at Mariner's Boatyard in Alameda, CA. I hope this helps a bit. Richard

Standing rigging replacment:

When we bought our c-36, WE HAD HER Standing rigging replaced. We replaced it with the same stranded cable as stock, and the rigger just measured the old rigging. Never looked at my spec sheets, but not to say he does not have his own set of specs. Since the standard rigging will last for 15-20 plus years, I had no interest in looking at rod or other material. Good Luck Bob

Did it 2 years ago

I have a '84 Cat 30 that started to lose the lower shrouds. Kind of scared me because I was in 25 knots of wind and the first one snapped like a piano string. I tied off my spare halyard to help relieve the load on the starboard side and sailed home on the jib. I had everything replaced for about $1500 including new turnbuckles and a topping lift. King Harbor Marine Center used my old rigging to size the new stuff. Jeff s/v Suzanne

New Standing Rigging

You can either buy the parts and assemble it yourself or have them assembled for you by West Marine. I'm not familiar with the specifics of a 30 TR, but you are probably looking at $1200-$1800. While you are unrigged, also remove and check the chainplates for cracking & corrosion and look for bulkhead rot behind the chainplates. If you have more questions about this topic, there's a guy, 'Pete', of Florida Rigging & Hydraulics who is usually lurking on the Cruising World / Sailing World BB. Most of the rest of the riff-raff there can be ignored.
