Thinking of replacing all shrouds and stays on our '86 H-31. Can anyone provide a ballpark figure for both having a pro do it, and buying the parts and doing it ourselves? We have access to swage tools and any other necessary tools. Since we do about 98% of all maintenance and repairs, we are certain we have the ability to do it ourselves. Thanks for any info. Hi Scott, do they need to be replaced?...

I figure if a pro in your area can give you a quote, dividing by three will get you close to the material costs. The original rigging on our 1991 P42 remains in good condition with no early visible signs of deterioration. At some point if we were to plan on blue water cruising, the rigging and sails would become the first upgrade items. Until then... Terry

Standing rigging

Living in the northern latitudes gives a longer working life to standing rigging than farther south. However, the headstay is the one crucial stay that can cause catastrophic failure. All headstays should be replaced at ten year intervals regardless. The rest can be inspected for signs of imminent failure and if good can remain. If you contact SECO South you can get an estimate for the cable and fittings.

$ for rerigging

Just had my '97 H310 fractional rig done by professionals last winter . . .approx total of $4600. 2 hrs of crane operation @ $300/hr = $600 + 30 hrs of labor @ $75/hr = $2250 + rigging materials = $1440 + misc permits & taxes I know . . .ouch ! . . .but at least I don't have to worry about it for a few years now. That's a good feeling.
