Does the Hunter 25 or any of the other trailerable boats have standing headroom. We really like our H23 but are thinking of moving up. Thanks

Food for thought.

Joe: Are you set on having a trailerable boat? Between the cost of the trailer and the vehicle to tow it you can invest in a non-trailerable boat and get what you are looking at. The older Cherubini's in the 27-30 range can be had for under $20k. If you want to move to a slightly new boat you can get a 28-31 in the $20-30k range. If you need a trailerable boat you probalby need to look at the 260 or equivalent. They have a 8'+ beam but can be towed with a permint and have the headroom that you may be looking for. The older 25' was about 5'7" which did not quite do it for head room.

Joe, Our 95 H26 has 5' 8 1/2" headroom...

under the entryway glass slider and hatch cover. After that it is about 5' 6". Trailers great and is very liveable for weeks at a time for the 2 of us. Water ballast is a little more tender than a fixed keel but the ability to tow to the many large lakes in our area was the hook. Enjoy whatever you buy. Ray

Ample Headroom!!

According to the sales brochure for our H23, it has UNLIMITED headroom.... with the hatch cover open! However this headroom is only available on sunny days.

You will have to look

Six foot of headroom was a criteria for our choosing a boat. All the experienced people told us 30 foot minimum. We found it in the H27 (75-84) at least on paper. I am six foot tall and if I wear a baseball cap the button scrapes the roof. I would not consider the H27 trailerable. There are some options if you have the bucks an enthusiasm. Some of the traditional design cat boats and other simple, functional designs might meet your need in the 25 foot range. They are, however, scarce in the used market. Andy s/v Baroque

How tall are you?

"Standing headroom" is going to be different for different people... I have a '78 H25, and at 5'8", I'm about 2 inches too tall to stand in the main cabin. I can, however, stand under the sea hood with about 3/4" to spare. More food for thought; About a year ago, I upgraded from an H23 to the H25. There's a WORLD of difference between these two boats, and I HEARTILY recommend the up-size, but the earlier post was also correct- I really wouldn't consider this boat to be trailerable. In fact, if I were looking for a trailer boat, I'd go with something that has a swing keel and water ballast, like a H26 or 260. Good luck in your search, --Jon Bastien H25 'Adagio'

Headroom

There are two versions of the Hunter 25, a pre-80 model with a sloping foredeck and a post-80 model with a rectangular foredeck described as a "box top." My box top 25 has 5' 10" of headroom except for the coaming around the hatch opening. Under the closed hatch you might get 5'11 1/2." Moving around is no trouble for me at 5'10." And I can stand up to pull up my pants in the head compartment! :)

canvas pop top

Some sailboats like the H-260, or the Catalina 25 have canvas"poptops" that provide 6 ft+ headroom, plus provide complete weather protection and let in more ambient light. Downside is that these tops cannot be used while under way. Hope this helps
