I need a "Crash Course" on where to locate the Spin prior to launch on our 2006 Capri 22, equipped with the Race Package. I am familiar with the procedure on how to launch and have some experience using the Spin, just need location of where locate the turtle. I am thinking of the cockpit's corner under/near the the halyard bag or on the deck above that area. I have a turtle that I can tie to the Lifeline there. I've seen pics of Spin Turtles attached to the Bow Pulpit, but that doesn't seem to be a good location.

We've tried numerous locations and reverted back to "old school" attaching to the bow pulpit and launch and retrieve from/to there. Whatever my bowman wants to do at the pointy end works fine for me back in the steering end.
A compainionway launch from a bag is generally the easiest if you need to do multiple launch/retrieves for a race (laps in W/L).. The trick is to pre-feed the guy to the pole, and simultaneously while jumping the spin halyard at the mast, the grinder swings the head of the spin out and away from the spreaders. I know you have a turtle bag, but so far on these small boats especially short handed the companionway hatch launch is best for multiple launches.
The bow mount is best for 1 launch, IF you pack the bag right. Its hard to repack the bag right on the bow with everything else going on.

I'm lucky to have a reliable spinnaker pack-while-it's-coming-down bowman who's raced with me since I got this boat 14 years ago. We use the bow pulpit even for multiple downwind leg races. The trick seems to be that he pulls in both sheet and guy together at the bag before we start lowering the halyard, so it's just armful after armful going into the bag once halyard is released gradually. We sometimes use the companionway but only if it's blowing hard and we have a third person on board, usually it's just the two of us.

Always done mine from the pulpit. Your bag should attach at the top rail of the pulpit you can also make it work to go from the bottom. The chute can be handled from the forward hatch if need be this way.
...although the class rules expressly forbid using the forward hatch for launching or retrieving the spinnaker whilst racing...
Really?! Are they worried about boats sailing around with the front hatch open, filling up in the event of a knockdown? I've found, particularly with multiple launch/retrieves, the front hatch to be the most convenient and versatile position for the bag.jerrymlewis said:

Nautos has pole end fittings at a reasonable price and I've got plenty of rope for halyard and sheets. I do have a slot cut in the mast above the forestay attachment, just no sheave installed, and no bale on the front of the mast for the pole end. For a pole topping lift do folks hang a block off the spreader bale?
And does anyone have the dimensions for pole length and spinnaker dimensions? Guessing here that something like a J24 kite would work well.
